Iran publicly declared Monday the Strait of Hormuz to be closed again, according to an official Iranian maritime body.

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority was established by Iran to regulate and control commercial vessel transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

The agency posted on X blaming recent “hostile action” by the United States for causing them to close the Strait of Hormuz.
The other side:
President Donald Trump told FOX News “we’re taking over the Strait” on Monday, adding “everything was agreed to” in an 11-hour meeting Sunday, but Iranian negotiators later called back, suggesting some changes.

In this Truth Social post, President Trump said that “Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN,” also suggesting that the U.S. should be paid for protecting assets and cargo shipped through the waterway.

New wave of strikes
Sunday, U.S. Central Command again targeted dozens of sites in Iran, striking military air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities and small boats.
In a social media post on X, CENTCOM again asserted, “The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade. Iran does not control it.”
The backstory:
The United States and Iran are nearly halfway through a 60-day peace deal where the two sides were negotiating an end to hostilities and an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and permanently reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has maintained the right to manage traffic through the strait and potentially charge fees.
