HOUSTON – A suspect and father are dead, and another person is recovering following a SWAT standoff on Friday afternoon in Independence Heights.

What we know:
According to Houston police officials, it all started just before 4:30 p.m. with a call for a cutting in progress at the Garden Oaks Village Apartments, located at North Sheperd and West Crosstimbers.
Officials said when they arrived, they found a man with a stab wound on the back.
Authorities said it was learned the suspect and the victim were brothers who had an argument.
When officers arrived, the suspect, who was said to be 20-years-old, barricaded and refused to come out.
Houston police said the father of the victim of the suspect was inside and was disabled.
Officers later heard a gunshot, there may have been two gunshots, and police backed off and set a perimeter.
Houston police said seconds later, they saw smoke coming from the apartment.
At that point, officials said HPD SWAT put on Houston Fire Department equipment, they breached the door, saw flames, then backed off, and firefighters started putting out the fire.

The entire apartment complex was cleared as a result of the barricaded suspect situation.
Authorities said they later found the 59-year-old father and the suspect dead inside the apartment.
Officials believe the suspect set his own apartment on fire.
The victim, who was initially stabbed, is said to be in stable condition at the hospital.
Officials said it will be at least two hours or so before apartment residents who were evacuated will be allowed to return to their homes.
What we don’t know:
Officials could not confirm what the argument between the suspect and the stabbing victim was about.
It’s also unclear exactly how the father and the suspect died as the medical examiner’s office will be investigating.
