The Armed Forces Medical Examiner System confirmed Staff Sgt. Angel Rampersad was killed in the July 17 attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, the Pentagon reported. Rampersad, 28, was reported missing immediately after the assault, which killed two other soldiers, and the Defense Department previously stated she was presumed to have died.

The backstory:
Rampersad was a member of 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command, according to the Defense Department statement. She was one of the soldiers honored Wednesday during the dignified transfer of four service members, who died recently in the Middle East.

The Dignified Transfer
Also saluted during this week’s dignified transfer were 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, both of whom died in the same attack, and Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton who died while working to detonate a downed drone in Iraq.

They and U.S. Navy pilot Cmdr. Gabriel Edwards, who died in a helicopter crash earlier this month, were the first service members killed in the Iran war since the opening days of the conflict. In all, 18 service members who have died as a result of the war.
