Sales for the rear-wheel drive Cybertruck model have dwindled in part based on a recall involving a defective brake problem that could result in the wheels potentially falling off.\u00a0<\/p>

The recent recall of this model Cybertruck, in part, could explain why the rear-wheel drive version didn\u2019t generate the type of consumer demand Tesla anticipated.<\/p>

In 2025, Tesla launched the rear-wheel-drive version of the Cybertruck, marketing the vehicle to the public as a more affordable model compared to the automaker\u2019s base all-wheel drive Cybertruck.\u00a0<\/p>

Cybertruck recall<\/h2>

Tesla\u2019s recall covers 173 Cybertrucks with 18-inch wheels that may have faulty brake rotors that may result in the wheel becoming detached.\u00a0<\/p>

According to MotorTrend, the holes for the wheel studs in the rotor can start to crack, placing stress on the hub assembly when driving around a curve.\u00a0<\/p>

If the driver isn\u2019t aware of the cracking, this may lead to complete failure, resulting in the wheel studs to separate from the Cybertrucks hub and the wheel coming off.\u00a0<\/p>

Tesla service centers stocked the same rotors, meaning the defect can show up after repairs. The replacement rotors were installed for similar cracking, occasionally after consumers reported unusual brake vibrations.<\/p>

According to MotorTrend, recall notices were mailed to owners on April 24, and remedy notification letters are not expected to be distributed until June 20.<\/p>

Owners of the affected Cybertrucks can take them to their local dealership to receive repairs for free.\u00a0<\/p>
