Packages of pounded yams were recalled across multiple states this week because a “temporary breakdown” between the maker\u2019s production and packaging processes resulted in an allergen not being included in the ingredient list.<\/p>

The recall covers Ola-Ola Pounded Yam that was sold between December 2025 and May 2026 in multiple U.S. states: California, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Texas, as well as Canada and Australia, according to the recall notice.<\/p>

The Food and Drug Administration posted an image of the product, indicating that the 64-ounce packages were sold in clear bags. Its statement said the affected bags have expiration dates ranging from November 2028 to May 2029 and do not list the dairy allergen.<\/p>

The backstory:<\/p>

The recalled bags contain milk in the form of sodium caseinate, but the allergen is not noted on the label, the FDA explained.<\/p>

The producer, Fayus Inc., doing business as Yusol International Foods (Sacramento, CA), stated that an internal investigation attributed the cause to a breakdown between the company\u2019s production and packaging arms.<\/p>

The company encouraged people with a milk allergy or sensitivity not to consume the pounded yam. It added that customers can return the product for a properly labeled one or one with a warning sticker label.\u00a0<\/p>
