HOUSTON<\/strong> – <\/span>A Montgomery County sheriff\u2019s deputy was killed after being struck by a vehicle while responding to an earlier traffic accident on Interstate 45, authorities said.<\/p>

Deputy killed in crash<\/h2>

What we know:<\/p>

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were on the scene investigating a multi-vehicle crash on I-45 North near Lake Woodlands when the deputy was hit.<\/p>

The identity of the deputy has not yet been officially released by the sheriff’s office, but law enforcement agencies across the region began mourning her death.<\/p>

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy who was tragically killed last night while working a crash scene on Interstate 45,” Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said in a statement. “Please join Constable Mark Herman\u2019s Office in praying for her family, loved ones, and our brothers and sisters with the Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s Office as they navigate this unimaginable loss.”<\/p>

Details regarding what led to the second crash or whether the driver who struck the deputy faces charges have not yet been released. The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>
