HOUSTON<\/strong> – <\/span>A massive tire fire at a metal recycling facility in Southeast Houston has left community members deeply concerned over the dangerous pollutants their children may have inhaled.<\/p>\n

The blaze, which tore through the area and sent thick plumes of black smoke into the sky, has reignited long-standing frustrations among local residents and environmental advocates regarding air quality tracking in the East End.<\/p>\n

High Pollutant Levels Detected Miles Away<\/h2>\n

According to the local organization Air Alliance Houston, Texas has zero official air monitors stationed in Houston’s East End. However, two independent air monitors happened to be directly in the path of the smoke plume, capturing alarming data:<\/p>\n

  • Denver Harbor Monitor: <\/strong>Captured 97 micrograms of particulate matter roughly four miles away from the fire.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Cashmere Gardens Monitor: <\/strong>Captured over 85 micrograms of particulate matter.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Air Alliance Houston officials believe these readings indicate that areas closer to the fire\u2014within a four-mile radius of the monitors\u2014likely experienced pollution levels significantly higher than anything officially recorded.<\/p>\n
