President Donald Trump spoke optimistically about the progress of peace negotiations with Iran, telling reporters Wednesday afternoon that the U.S. has had “very good talks” with the country\u2019s leadership over the previous 24 hours.\u00a0<\/p>

Trump stated that Iran\u2019s leaders are looking to reach a deal; however, he went on to warn that the U.S. may start bombing the nation again if no agreement is reached.\u00a0<\/p>

Also on Wednesday, a U.S. fighter jet shot out the rudder of an Iranian tanker in the Gulf of Oman, U.S. Central Command reported. According to the military, the tanker had tried to breach its blockade of Iranian ports.\u00a0<\/p>

US forces intercept Iranian attacks, strike back in Hormuz<\/h2>

4:30 p.m. ET: <\/strong>The U.S. military reported intercepting Iranian attacks aimed at three Navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz and said it struck Iranian military sites linked to assaults on American forces.<\/p>

According to U.S. Central Command, the incident took place as Navy destroyers were passing through the strait. In a Thursday social media post, it said U.S. forces stopped what it described as “unprovoked Iranian attacks” and carried out retaliatory strikes in self-defense.<\/p>

Officials said none of the ships were damaged. The military added that it is not seeking to escalate tensions but remains prepared to defend U.S. personnel.<\/p>

Pakistan expecting a US-Iran deal soon<\/h2>

9:01 a.m. ET: <\/strong>Pakistan Foreign Minister spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said he is expecting the United States and Iran to come to reach an agreement “sooner rather than later.”\u00a0<\/p>

“We hope the parties will reach a peaceful and sustainable solution that will contribute not only to peace in our region but to international peace as well,” Andrabi said.\u00a0<\/p>

Iran reviewing US proposal<\/h2>

6:22 a.m. ET: <\/strong>A spokesman for Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, told state TV that Iran is still examining the latest proposal from the U.S. but “strongly rejected” a previous proposal that was reported.\u00a0<\/p>

The White House earlier sent a one-page memorandum to end the war, according to Axios.\u00a0<\/p>

“If they don\u2019t agree, the bombing starts,” Trump said on social media, “and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.”<\/p>
