WASHINGTON<\/strong> – <\/span>President Donald Trump praised a San Antonio Spurs player, while announcing he plans to attend an NBA Finals game next week to cheer on his hometown New York Knicks.\u00a0<\/p>

What we know:<\/p>

The Spurs fell to the Knicks during Game 1 of the best-of-seven series in San Antonio on Wednesday night. The teams meet for Game 2 in San Antonio on Friday night.<\/p>

While taking questions from the press in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump said he is happy for Knicks owner James Dolan calling him a competitive and hard-working man.<\/p>

What they’re saying:<\/p>

Trump also had some nice words for Spurs center and forward Victor Wembanyama.<\/p>

“Wemby\u2019s a great player,” Trump said. “He\u2019s going to be a great player, and he is already a great player. I say, \u2018How do you guard this guy?\u2019 He\u2019s 7-foot-5 and he\u2019s a great shot, right? But they find a way to do it.”<\/p>

What’s next:<\/p>

Trump said he will accept Dolan\u2019s invite to attend one of the games at Madison Square Garden in New York.<\/p>

“I\u2019m going,” Trump said. “It could be Monday.”<\/p>

That would be the third game of the Finals and the first game of the series to be hosted by the Knicks.<\/p>
