The electro-pop composer who created the track “Nightcall” and was once described by the French culture minister as one of the nation’s “most singular voices,” died at age 50, the Associated Press reported.
Big picture view:
Kavinsky, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey, was found dead at his home on Tuesday evening, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office. Investigators are looking into the cause of death, but noted that first responders did not consider it suspicious.
The backstory:
Kavinsky’s song “Nightcall” set the tone of the movie “Drive,” which starred Ryan Gosling. He also performed the song alongside Belgian singer Angèle at the 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony in Paris.

Culture Minister Catherine Pégard paid tribute to Kavinsky in a social media post, writing that “Both danceable and nostalgic, his music will continue to resonate across generations and borders.”
