NEW YORK CITY – The NYPD is investigating on Monday morning after video showed a plume of smoke rising outside 26 Federal Plaza and officers appearing to apprehend a person on the ground.

What we know:
The FDNY was called around 8:30 a.m. for reports of fireworks at the corner of Worth and Lafayette Streets.
According to reports, some type of fireworks went off and ignited a garbage can or rubbish outside the building. There were no reports of a fire from inside the building. One person was injured, officials said.

Police said they were investigating a possible firearm found at the scene. Video also showed a person on the ground being taken away by officers. It’s unknown if they were a suspect or not.
A motive was unclear, but 26 Federal Plaza is home to ICE offices/federal immigration court and a short-term detention center. There was no indication of a broader threat at the time.
