Waking temperatures across the region, including the Texas Medical Center, lingered in the upper 70s with feel-like readings in the low 80s. However, temperatures are projected to skyrocket as the day progresses.

By 4 p.m., highs are expected to reach 97 degrees at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and across much of Houston, Cypress, Tomball, and The Woodlands. Hobby Airport, which officially hit 99 degrees on Saturday, is also expected to see near-triple-digit heat.

The National Weather Service warns that the heat index will reach the triple digits from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and apply sunscreen due to an elevated UV index.

A few isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible late Sunday afternoon and into the early evening, with skies clearing after sunset.

Monday Forecast: Increasing Rain Chances

Rain chances will increase slightly heading into Monday morning, beginning with a few isolated coastal showers to start the day.

By Monday afternoon and evening, storm coverage is expected to expand. The activity will initiate in the northern viewing areas before tracking south toward the Interstate 10 corridor. Despite the chances of rain, daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, peaking in the mid-to-upper 90s.

Rest of the Week: Drier Conditions and Summer Heat

The unsettled weather pattern will linger slightly into Tuesday before a shift later in the week.

An area of high pressure is forecast to move over the region by mid-to-late week, bringing a brief period of drier weather and suppressing daily rain chances. However, the dry spell will be short-lived, as scattered showers and thunderstorms are projected to return to the forecast by next weekend.
