A popular beauty brand’s five-year relationship with one of the nation’s largest chains is expected to end next month.

Why you should care:
Ulta Beauty shops will soon move out of Target stores in a move announced in August of last year. Until that time, customers who have been tallying Ulta Beauty Rewards and Target Circle on eligible purchases will still be able to do so.
What’s next:
Despite the breakup, the two companies are assuring their respective customer bases that they will find quality beauty products when they walk into Ulta and Target stores.

In the statement announcing the move, Target promised its shoppers that stores will still have a lineup of beauty items, as well as trial events. At the same time, Ulta pointed out its Beauty Marketplace will include new brands and reach out to a larger customer base.

Target’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Rick Gomez, described the ending deal with Ulta as a success and said the company is looking to move forward.

“We look forward to what’s ahead and remain committed to offering the beauty experience consumers have come to expect from Target – one centered on an exciting mix of beauty brands with continuous newness, all at an unbeatable value,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ulta’s chief retail officer, Amiee Bayer-Thomas, called the Target relationship a unique opportunity to expand the brand.
“As we continue to execute our Ulta Beauty Unleashed plans, we’re confident our wide-ranging assortment, expert services and inspiring in-store experiences will reinforce our leadership in beauty and define the next chapter of our brand,” she said.
