HOUSTON – A Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy was killed after being struck by a vehicle while responding to an earlier traffic accident on Interstate 45, authorities said.

What we know:
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were on the scene investigating a multi-vehicle crash on I-45 North near Lake Woodlands when the deputy was hit.
The identity of the deputy has not yet been officially released by the sheriff’s office, but law enforcement agencies across the region began mourning her death.

Details regarding what led to the second crash or whether the driver who struck the deputy faces charges have not yet been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
