The search for a missing father and son who were last seen leaving their Hawaiian hotel on Tuesday morning continues and has extended into the waters off Oahu, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.

The Coast Guard is working with its partner agencies to try to find the 49-year-old man and his 16-year-old son, whose names were not released. Their family members reported last seeing them leaving the hotel Tuesday around 7 a.m. to hike on the Hanauma Bay Rock Bridge Trail, on the island of Oahu.
Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact the Coast Guard on VHF-FM channel 16 or by calling the Sector Honolulu command center at 1-800-552-6458.

The backstory:
Around 8:45 a.m. that morning, a good Samaritan found a backpack with some of the missing man’s belongings in it near the trail and reached out to authorities, the Coast Guard said in a statement. His car was also found next to the trailhead entrance.
Coast Guard watchstanders broadcast an alert at 11:11 a.m. after the Honolulu Fire Department alerted them to the missing pair. A helicopter and 45-foot response boat were deployed by the Coast Guard to join the search. The Coast Guard expected to deploy a cutter to help locate the father and son, its statement noted.
