The Carolina Hurricanes are waking up as Stanley Cup champions for the first time since 2006, after a 3-0 shutout in Game 6 over the Vegas Golden Knights, sealing a dominant 16-3 postseason run to return the Cup to Carolina.
Fans celebrated in downtown Raleigh, but the biggest party is still ahead. The official championship parade is set for Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. in downtown Raleigh, according to their Facebook page, Raleigh Downtown.
Game 6 victory
The defense for the Canes showed up Sunday night, holding Vegas to zero goals throughout all three periods of play. Brandon Bussi stopped 22 shots, in his third full game since taking over for Frederik Andersen in Game 3.
The thrilling double overtime loss by the Hurricanes in Game 3 proved to be a turning point for Carolina, winning the next three games to seal the series.
Forward Taylor Hall got on the board just at 3:47 to start the game. Jackson Blake also had a goal and an assist. One more goal came on an empty net by Nikolaj Ehlers.

The Golden Knights, on the other hand, struggled to find offense throughout the game, nearly going a full 20 minutes of game time without a shot on goal in the second and third periods.

Carolina center Jordan Staal, who received the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, led the Canes in goals in the final.
“It’s amazing. This is something I’ve been going after ever since we got the first one. You want to win it again and again and again,” Staal said.
Staal is the oldest player to win the award and the longest-tenured player for the Hurricanes.
What we don’t know:
The team and city have not yet released full parade route details, but Saturday’s parade will mark the first Stanley Cup celebration in Raleigh in two decades.
