The United States and Iran reached an agreement Sunday that ended all hostilities between the two nations and is expected to allow commercial ships to once again traverse the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose nation had been mediating the peace talks, made the announcement Sunday afternoon that all military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon, would end immediately.
President Donald Trump echoed Sharif’s post soon afterward and said the U.S. would end the blockade of Iranian ports. He went on to celebrate the fact the Strait of Hormuz would be opening soon. He later hedged and indicated that the vital waterway may not open until after the official signing ceremony, which will be held Friday in Switzerland.

6:25 a.m. ET: Iran’s Supreme National Security Council released a statement that said military operations in multiple areas will cease “immediately and permanently” starting Sunday night.

With the final memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreed upon between Washington and Tehran, the U.S. will also lift its naval blockade on Iran, according to their statement.
The statement also expressed thanks to Pakistan and Qatar for helping to mediate the discussions.
