Houston Police officer involved in shooting with suspect, authorities on scene
What we know:
According to Houston police, it all began around 6:45 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Westheimer Road and Briargreen Drive.
Authorities said they received a call for a suspicious person with a weapon after a citizen reported a Black male pointed a weapon at him and his child, and took shelter at a local restaurant.
Police said they arrived within four minutes to the scene, saw the suspect, and ordered the suspect to drop the weapon. However, the suspect started to run from the officers and the officers gave chase. During the foot chase, officials said the suspect pointed a weapon multiple times at the officers.
Officials said during the foot chase, the officers attempted to clear people in the area while urging the suspect to drop the weapon. However, the suspect did not comply.

As a result, an officer who has been with the department for five years, fired his weapon at the suspect striking him. A second officer, who was a training officer with the department for 8-months was involved, but did not fire his weapon at the suspect.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition, according to officials.
Officials added the suspect has a criminal history, stating he’s been arrested multiple times.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
