A handful of Republicans joined Democratic lawmakers to pass a War Powers Resolution in the House that would force President Donald Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from the conflict with Iran or to gain congressional approval to keep fighting.

U.S. mediators helped Israeli and Lebanese leaders reach an agreement on Wednesday to extend their fragile cease-fire. The new agreement adds provisions for “pilot” security zones in Lebanon where Hezbollah militants will not be allowed to operate.

The cease-fire between the U.S. and Iran remains in effect but faced another test Wednesday as Iranian drones struck a passenger terminal at Kuwait’s main airport, killing one person and wounding dozens of others. The airport had been closed for months because of the war and had only reopened on Monday.

Trump hints at vital weekend
7:55 a.m. ET: President Trump spoke with reporters Wednesday during an Oval Office news conference.
He said this weekend there could be progress in negotiations with Iran or possible further escalation.
“We could go another 2 or 3 weeks and just wipe everybody out: I’d rather not do that, very easy to do,” Trump said. “They want to do it. But if we can get something done in writing which will accomplish the same thing without killing everybody, I’d like to do that.”
Trump: Iran progress could come ‘over the weekend,’ or potentially back to war
President Donald Trump suggested Wednesday there could be progress in negotiations with Iran as soon as this weekend, as his administration faces pressure to bring down fuel prices.

“If it happens, it could happen over the weekend,” Trump told reporters during an Oval Office news conference.
Trump said parties were working to separate the issue of reopening the strait from the conflict in Lebanon.
“We could go another 2 or 3 weeks and just wipe everybody out: I’d rather not do that, very easy to do,” Trump said. “They want to do it. But if we can get something done in writing which will accomplish the same thing without killing everybody, I’d like to do that.”
US talks with Hezbollah
7:32 a.m. ET: President Trump said for the first time, he has made contact with Hezbollah about their ongoing dispute with Israel.
“We actually spoke with Hezbollah for the first time ever,” Trump said. “We didn’t know they spoke. And they agreed yesterday they’re not going to shoot. Israel is not going to shoot.”
While praising Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump insisted that Israel needed U.S. to intervene.
“They couldn’t have done it without us, couldn’t have even come close. And they needed us and they got us to help them with a real problem,” he said. “They couldn’t have done it without us.”
