PFLUGERVILLE, Texas – Police are investigating after a mass shooting in Pflugerville that began with an altercation inside a restaurant that spilled into the parking lot.

The backstory:
The incident began at around 1:30 a.m. at the Down South Cajun Eats restaurant on FM 1825 near Vision Drive and Pecan Street.
The victims
Officers responded to the scene and found multiple people with gunshot wounds.
Five people were shot and all were taken to various local hospitals.
Police say one person died and have identified him as 27-year-old Mykal Jones. He was pronounced dead at a Round Rock hospital at 2:13 a.m.
Another person was in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable condition, per APD. Three others have non-life threatening injuries and are expected to be okay.

What happened?
Police say an altercation started inside the restaurant which escalated into a shooting and then spilled out into the parking lot.
Multiple people pulled out weapons and started shooting, with shots fired inside and outside the restaurant.

This case is being investigated as Austin’s 22nd homicide of the year.

Not too long after the shooting in Pflugerville, APD received a call about another shooting in the 1500 block of East Howard Lane, which is about three miles away from the other shooting.
