A man wanted in connection to three men who were killed in Hawaii was captured on Thursday, officials said.
Jacob Baker, 36, of Pahoa, Hawaii, was arrested after a search that involved “significant resources,” including assistance from state and federal authorities.
What we know:
Investigators allege Baker is responsible for the deaths of three men:
- Robert Shine, 69, was found partially submerged in a cement pond
- 79-year-old (identity yet to be released) was found a few hundred feet away from Shine
- John Carse, 69, was found 19 miles away
All three men were killed over a span of two days in a remote and mostly rural part of Hawaii’s Big Island.
Police received information Thursday afternoon that Baker was hiding in a grassy area, ducking down as traffic passed, Hawaii Police Chief Reed Mahuna said at a news conference after the arrest. Police found him hiding in a small cave and arrested him.

What we don’t know:
Investigators said they do not have a motive for the killings at this time.

The slayings happened just days after two women had requested temporary restraining orders against Baker.
Baker had allegedly threatened and harassed them at a farm of which one of the women was a co-owner.
One of the women claimed Baker had threatened to kill several women who were staying at the property, which led to a few of them moving or ending their stays.
The other woman alleged that Baker threatened women and a disabled man. Baker further said he would trespass on the property, take things that didn’t belong to him and said his intention was to squat on the property.
