GRANVILLE, Vt. – A propane leak caused a house explosion in Granville, Vermont, that killed a mother and son and critically injured another person, according to Vermont State Police.

The explosion was reported at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at a home on Connecticut Trail, off Post Office Hill Road.
Investigators with the Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit determined the explosion was accidental and not suspicious.

The victims were identified as Liam O’Sullivan, 20, and his mother, Sarah O’Sullivan, 46, both of Essex Junction. Autopsies completed Sunday at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington found that both died from blast-related injuries.

Three other adults were taken to hospitals. Two suffered minor injuries, while Shiela Hammond, 69, of Granville, remained hospitalized in critical condition at an out-of-state facility.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while another died after being taken to Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
What’s next:
The Vermont State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Field Force Division and Victim Services Unit responded to the scene, along with the Division of Fire Safety and Granville Volunteer Fire Department.
